Her little sister Suna is half deaf and requires hearing aids, and lots of attention. Mina's mother is constantly annoyed with Suna, and puts pressure on Mina to get good grades so she'll be able to go to Harvard. Mina knows it's impossible for her to go to Harvard or even attend an university with the grades she's getting. Mina's parents own a drycleaners, which doesn't make a lot of money. She does not get paid, but she does find another way to get some money.
Day 2
Mina's father had hurt his back while fixing one of the broken machines, so Suna was left behind to aid her father while Mina and her mother go to Mrs. Kim’s to pick up some SAT books for Mina. Jonathan threatens Mina with a dark secrete that only he and her knows. If Mina doesn't do what he says, he'll tell all of her awful secretes to the one person Mina loves but hates the most. Devasted with what Jonathan had said, Mina goes into her own little world while Suna is locked outside of it.
Day 3
Ever since Mina was in fourth grade, her mother had always had very high expectations for her like going to Harvard. But Mina knows too well that she'll never make it into Harvard no matter how hard she tries, so she makes other plans for her future that nobody beside herself knows. Because Mina's father had hurt his back, they had to hire a temporary help at the drycleaners. His name is Ysrael (Yes-rail). Mina's mother is skeptical about Ysrael because he is Mexcian. Working around him had made Mina develope some hidden feelings for Ysrael. But what she does not know is that Suna feels the same way about Ysrael. Mina remembers a moment from her past. She was sitting on her mother's lap and looking at an old photograph of a young boy. She knew from the moment on that she had a connection with him.
Day 4
When Mina was little, she did not understand who the little boy on the old photo was, but as she grew and watched her mother's actions contrast between her and Suna, she understood. Mina is forced to go to an SAT prep class at the local library There she meets Ysrael. While Mina was there, Ysrael took Suna to the beach without Mina's permission. She was very angry at Ysrael, not because he took Suna without asking her first, but because he didn't ask her to go with them. The next day, Mina skipped her prep class the join Ysrael and Suna on their trip to the beach. While there, both Mina and Suna find Ysrael more and more attractive, especially with his talents for music.
Day 5
As Ysrael's music kept on playing, Mina understood more about him. Ysrael told Mina a story from when he was little which explains how he got the moon-shaped scar on his face. Mina cannot help herself from falling in love with him, though she knew if her mother ever finds out, she’d kill her. As the days past, Mina becomes closer with Ysrael and feels more attached to him than ever. But she was again forced to go to Jonathan’s house, alone this time. Jonathan tries to make Mina fall in love with him by using a way that will scar her for life.
Day 6
Ysrael takes Mina and Suna to a Mexican restaurant. There, Mina finally admits to herself that she loves Ysrael. Ysrael gets up and plays his music at the restaurant. Everyone was very high at that point, even Suna, but the loud music still seems to be an ocean apart from her. Mina sees Ysrael and a wittress together and wonders if she actually knows Ysrael as much she thought. Confused, angry, and alone, Mina runs off into the night by herself.
Day 7
Mina accidentally left Suna at the restaurant with a bunch of strangers. Suna has fallen in love with Ysrael's music, but she knows her sister needs him more than she does. Yet Suna is still upset since she tried so hard to get Ysrael to notice her. At home, Suna won't speak to Mina, and Mina still doesn't know about Suna's feelings. She just wants to be with Ysrael, and the only thing standing in her way is her mother. Mina is willing to sacrafice everything to be with Ysrael.
Day 8
Mina's mother blames Ysrael for the missing money that Mina took when she wasn't looking. Ysrael knows all of Mina's secrets and expects her to tell her mother the truth for once, but Mina just couldn't. She watched with sorrow and guilt as her mother screamed at Ysrael to get out. Unfortunaly, that's not the least of Mina's worries. She has been forced to go to Jonathan's house again, but this time, she brings Suna. When Jonathan saw Suna, he was displeased and told Suna to stay downstairs while he and Mina "talked" upstairs.
Day 9
Mina and Jonathan's problems finally got resolved. Mina drops Suna off at the library so she could be alone with Ysrael. Ysrael tells Mina that he is going to leave the next day to attend a music school. Mina begs for him not to leave her, so he offers her to go with him. Mina enjoyed her last day with Ysrael before having to make up her decision. When they went to pick up Suna, she was soaked from the rain. Ysrael says good-bye to Suna. Before leaving, he gave Mina a tape. At home, Mina is still wondering if she should go with Ysrael and leave Suna behind or stay and continue to live out the lie that is now her life.
Day 10
That night, Mina listens to the tape, it was the song Ysrael had been working on, the one he played at the beach. She listened very carefully to the lyrics, and at that moment, she made up her mind. She would go with him, escape her old life and make a new life with him. Suna discovers the tape cover with a time and the address of a place on it. She knew her sister would go with Ysrael and leave her here so she puts the cover in her mother's hand while she was sleeping. In the morning, Mina had packed and was ready to go, but her mother stopped her at the door. Her mother was very frustrated at Mina for lying to her. She blames her own life on Mina, but Mina didn't care anymore. On the way to meet Ysrael at the bus station, she suddenly remembers Suna, and how miserable she would be without her. Mina knew the reason Suna gave the tape cover to her mother is so that she wouldn't leave. She remembers Suna's face yesterday when she heard Ysrael was leaving and turns around.
